A Great Big Thank you goes out the St. Matthews Luthern School for getting involved in the effort to help fight hunger!
To reenforce the lesson of "The Good Samaritan", Mr. Cortwright asked his class of 2nd - 4th graders how they thought they could be good samaritans by getting involved. Jordan Kennedy raised his hand and said his mom worked with Feed Spokane to help feed hungry people. Mr. Cortwright contacted me and asked how his class could "Get Involved". I mentioned that much of our food comes to us in bulk and we must portion it out for different meal sites. One of the items we use to do this is 1 gallon zip lock bags. I told him that though it may seem an unusual way to help, it was a definite need in our efforts to fight hunger. He sent home a flyer with all of his students just before the big snow fall closed schools for a week.
These wonderful children did not forget the need even with the extended vacation from school. Last week I picked up a completely full grocery bag of boxes of 1 gallon zip lock bags! These 14 young citizens of Spokane took it on themselves to be "Good Samaritans", even with the distraction of a snow storm. The zip lock bags were delivered to Women and Children's Free Restaurant on Friday morning, just in time for them to be used to divide up food that would get hungry mom's and children through the weekend. The director Marlene Alford, was very excited to recieve this blessed donation.
Thank you sincerely for being willing to get involved. Your caring effort helped 112 mothers to get nutritious food to feed their children for the weekend!
