National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 13-17) is a national endeavor to promote education, action, and awareness about hunger and homelessness. The Spokane Homeless Coalition is sponsoring this important effort in the Spokane Region with a series of activities.

On Wednesday, Nov. 15, the Spokane Homeless Coalition will be sponsoring a Hunger Awareness Forum as part of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week called “ Feed Spokane Body, Mind and Spirit.” The forum will be held at Shalom Ministries, 518 W. Third, at 6 p.m. A light meal will be served. The forum will include the following guest speakers:

Maurice Smith, Executive Director of Feed Spokane
Several Formerly Homeless individuals
On Thursday, Nov. 16, the Spokane Homeless Coalition will be sponsoring a Homelessness Awareness Walk. The Walk begins at Women’s Hearth 920 W. 2nd Avenue. The Walk will include the following guest speakers:

Spokane County Commissioner Mark Richard
Ms._Tiffany Mukes, former homeless single mother.
And a performance by The Voiceless Among Us Choir.

On Friday, Nov. 17, SHC will be sponsoring a Homeless Memorial Dedication. The dedication will take place at the House of Charity 32 W. Pacific Ave at 1 p.m.

Opportunities for the community to donate include:

Drive by and drop off new or gently used winter gear & sleeping bags, Thursday, Nov. 16, 4 – 7 p.m. at 11119 W. 1st Avenue. 280-0506
Donate new socks & underwear for homeless children, Monday, Nov. 13, to Friday, Nov. 17, 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., YWCA, 829 W. Broadway. 326-1190 ext. 152
Donate size 4 & 5 diapers and baby wipes, Monday, Nov. 13 to Friday, Nov. 17, 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., St Margaret’s Shelter, 101 E. Hartson.
