1st Call for Help
This is a confidential 24-hour emergency and crisis information telephone service which helps clients locate and connect with non-profit agencies, support groups and community resources. Call (509) 838-4428 or (877) 678-4428.
AARP/Senior Employment:
This program is a work-training program that provides subsidized, part-time temporary assignments and placement assistance to low-income seniors. They are located at 1801 W. Broadway, Suite 110, 325-7712.
Access to Baby and Child Dentistry Program (ABCD Program)
The Access to Baby and Child Dentistry program increases access to children and infants who are Medicaid eligible to dentists in Spokane County. Call 324-1550 for more information.
Airway Heights Food Bank:
This is a food bank serving zip codes 99001, 99011, 99013, and 99022. It is open Mondays and Fridays from 10:00am to 12:45pm and Wednesday evenings from 5pm-8pm. They are located at 1309 S. Lawson St, #3 in Airway Heights, 244-1611.
ALTCEW Home Health Aide (Aging and Long Term Care of Eastern Washington)
This agency provides personal care services for persons 60 years and older when there is no one able or willing to assist, or for lower income people not eligible for similar services under Medicare/Medicaid. They are located at 1222 N. Post, 458-2509.
Alzheimer's Association
This is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to education, patient and family services, advocacy, and research support. Hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. They are located at 601 W. Maxwell, Suite 4, 483-8456 or 800-256-6659.
American Behavioral Health Services
This agency provides alcohol and drug treatment together through an in-patient program for males and females aged 18 and up. Open 24 hours-a-day at 44 E Cozza Drive, 325-6800. Business hours are Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm.
American Indian Community Center:
The Center, a comprehensive social services agency, focuses on outreach and supportive services to assist American Indian individuals and families in transitional housing or homeless situations. The case manager works with the individual to assist them in accessing housing, financial resources, treatment, and jobs. They also offer life skills classes, daycare, GED classes, mental health counseling, and enrollment assistance in substance abuse programs.
The Senior Nutrition Program through Community Health Association of Spokane (CHAS) is located at AICC. It targets those over 55. Hot lunches are served Mon-Fri at 11:30am through SASTA transportation. They are located at 905 E. Third in Spokane. They can be reached at 535-0886.
They also house a food bank serving those in the 99202 zip code. Their hours are Mon-Fri, 1pm-5pm and are located at 905 E. Third.
Anna Ogden Hall:
Anna Ogden Hall is a shelter for women and children. Their services include case management, life skills classes, learning center, job training, and a clothing bank. They also offer residents a domestic violence process group and a Christian 12-step recovery group. They are located at 2828 W. Mallon, 327-7737.
ARC of Spokane
The ARC of Spokane serves people who have a developmental disability and their families. They promote independence and choice as well as enhancing the quality of life. Services include identifying common needs, comprehensive information and referral, encouraging individuals and organizations to welcome those with developmental disabilities into all aspects of life, and personal and emotional support on a one-to-one basis and in groups. ARC sets up budgets, assists in opening checking accounts, and pays bills for clients under the "Protective Payee" program. They are located at 127 W. Boone, 328-6326.
AscendA D.B.A. Christmas House:
Helps those in recovery with community outreach programs to insure their continuation for a successful recovery.  Our mission and vision is to create a community of healing which moves people with addictions and co-occuring disorders from homelessness to home ownership.  Our preliminary analysis lends convictions that a few simple ideas will be ultimately revolutionary.  They are located at 3000 W. Sunset Blvd., 624-4045.
Basic Health Plan
This state governmental program provides low-cost health insurance. For more information, call 1-800-660-9840.
Bethel AME Church--G.E.D. and Educational Programs
Services include a G.E.D. program for teens. An instructor and counselor come from the Extended Learning Center (IEL) and follow-up is done with graduates to encourage them to go on to college. The church is an official G.E.D. test site offered Mon-Thurs from 10am-4pm. To contact them, call 533-2683.
The C3PT program ("Character-College-Career Prep Time") is intended to enhance learning opportunities for under-served and under-represented children and their families. It includes a fall and a summer agenda for 3rd through 12th graders.
The TEC Neighborhood Network computer learning center assists in the development of positive life skills, exploration of personal interests, and discovery of what technology can do to improve quality of life; their hours are Mon-Fri from 2pm-6pm.
Bethel AME Church--Health and Wellness Program
This program seeks to collaborate with existing health care providers to disseminate culturally-appropriate information related to preventable and treatable health-related issues. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile provides medical services for newborns through age 21 on Fridays at the church at 600 S. Richard Allen Court, 534-3007.
Bethel AME Church--Richard Allen Youth Academy:
The Richard Allen Youth Academy, part of the Bethel AME Church at 600 S. Richard Allen Court, is a state-licensed childcare facility capable of providing for 74 children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. It is currently operated Mon-Fri from 6:30am-8:30pm. Families receiving DSHS subsidies to pay their tuition are welcome. The number to call for more information is 534-3007.
Bethel AME Church--Winter Soup Kitchen
This program provides hot meals January through March on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30pm-6:00pm for one and all. For more information, call 534-3007. They are located at 600 S. Richard Allen Court, Spokane.

Calvary Baptist Church
Calvary Baptist provides a storehouse for food and a clothing bank program with donated items available to those in need at 207 E. 3rd Ave. They are open Mon-Wed, and Sat 9am-12noon; 747-8793.
Cancer Patient Care
This organization provides cancer patient services and assistance to low-income cancer patients. There are various services provided, including transportation to cancer treatments, home health care equipment loans, non-prescription medical supplies, and financial assistance for emergency needs such as heat, light, and groceries for the cancer patient and family. They are located at 1507 E Sprague, 456-0446.
Career Connections:
This program provides job training and placement to disabled individuals and disadvantaged adults in the Spokane area. They are located at 421 N. Mullan, 928-0423.
Career Path Services:
Provides training, education, and placement assistance to adults and youth entering the job market. This program receives funding under the workforce investment act. An on-site program is offered for resume preparation, GED acquisition, job hunter modules, market research, how to keep a job and have success on the job, and more. It is targeted for drop-outs and "at-risk" students, for those seeking high school re-entry and credits, those seeking help with applying for fianancial aid, home school assessments, "career intent" seminars, and more. They are located at 905 N. Washington, Suite 300, 328-7520. Hours are Mon-Thurs from 7:30 am - 5:30 pm.
Caritas Food Bank:
This is a food bank serving zip codes 99205, 99208, 99026, and 99218. It is open Mon, Wed, and Thurs from 10:00am to 1:00pm. They are located at 5109 N. Adams, 326-2249.
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)/Guardian Ad Litem:
This is a free program which provides advocacy for abused and neglected children between the ages of birth and 17. Days and hours vary. They are located at 1208 W. Mallon, 477-2469.

Catholic Charities/House of Charity (HOC):
House of Charity provides several services for the homeless including meals, shelters, outreach workers, clothing bank, free limited medical care, case management, mental health/substance abuse counseling, housing and housing stabilization, and free laundry and showers for adult men and women. Catholic Charities/St. Ann's Parish:
Meals are provided on Sundays at 1:00 pm for homeless, low-income, and local residents at 2120 E. First Avenue, 535-3031.
Catholic Charities/St. Margaret's:
This program is structured to provide safety, stability and support in a home-like atmosphere as residents prepare for their future. Within this supportive environment, case management is provided to empower residents to move toward more independent living and achieve personal goals. St. Margaret’s provides life skills classes, a mentor program, and mental health support groups for homeless women and victims of domestic violence. Residents have face-to-face weekly meetings as well as constant access. Non-residents have 24-hour access by phone. St. Margaret's Shelter is for women and children. 624-9788.
Catholic Family Services:
Catholic Family Services is a certified mental health treatment program and provides counseling services for all ages and for various reasons such as family counseling, group counseling, post-abortion counseling, etc. Educational workshops are also provided on an as-needed basis. Intake number is 242-2308.
Central Lutheran Church
Provides a general clothing bank. It is open on Wednesdays from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at 512 S. Bernard, 624-9233.
Central United Methdist Church-Shalom Ministries
Meals are served mostly for homeless and low-income but anyone is welcome at 518 W. 3rd Ave, 455-9019. Breakfast is served from 7:00 am to 8:00 am, Monday-Thursday. Lunch is served from 11:00 am - 12:00 noon, Monday-Thursday. Dinner is served 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Mondays only. All meals are at no charge.
Cheney Food Bank:
This is a food bank serving zip codes 99004, 99014, 99020, and 99224. It is open the first four Tuesdays of each month from 9:00am to 1:00pm. They are located at 630 Third St, Cheney, 235-2325.
Children's Alliance:
The Children's Alliance are advocates for fair policy affecting children and families. This agency is in Seattle but can be reach at 1-800-854-5437.
Children’s Home Society:
Children’s Home Society provides several counseling/family services which include: Child & Family Counseling, Relatives Raising Relatives Support Groups, Family Information & Referral Service, Adoption Resource Center, Family Advocate Program, Early Childhood Education (Parents as Teachers), Nurturing Program, Literacy, and Violence Prevention programs. They also have a Parent Information & Resource Library and ongoing parent support groups. They also offer services at East Central and Northeast Community Centers, various schools, and community churches. They can be reached at 747-4174.
Christ Clinic:
This program provides primary care (various medical services) for uninsured and under-insured who do not qualify for public assistance but who do qualify under federal guidelines. They have a sliding-scale fee. Appointments are required--no walk-ins. Call 325-0393, Mon-Fri 9am-12noon and 1pm-5pm.
Christ Kitchen:
Christ Kitchen is a Christ-centered ministry providing work, job training, and fellowship for women in poverty in Spokane, WA through production and sales of gift baskets and dried food products. This ministry enables women to learn to work, to become employable and to eventually support themselves and their families without reliance on government programs or destructive relationships. They are located at 2709 W. Boone, 325-4343. Their hours are Mon-Fri, 9 am - 12 noon and 1 pm - 5 pm.
City Gate Fellowship:
City Gate Fellowship provides outreach services through its open-door policy to street people, the homeless, and those with low-income. They provide client advocacy and support. They serve dinner on Wednesdays, Fridays, every 3rd and 4th Saturday, and the last Sunday of the month from 7 pm - 8:30 pm. Saturday morning breakfast is from 8 am - 9:30 am. They also have a clothing and food bank located at 120 S. Madison (455-9670), hours are Tues-Fri, 10 am - 12 noon and 1pm - 3 pm by appointment only. The food bank serves zip codes 99201, 99204, and 99224.
Clear Line (Coordinated Legal Education, Advice and Referral):
This service offers free civil (non-criminal) legal assistance and referrals to low-income residents of Washington State and is available Mon-Fri, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm and Tuesdays 4 pm - 6:45 pm. This is a statewide intake line (1-888-201-1014) and is staffed by attorneys and paralegals trained to provide immediate information and advice regarding callers' particular issues. When clients need direct representation, CLEAR staff refers clients to a local branch office or other local legal service providers. Seniors can call 1-888-387-7111 for senior issues exclusively.
Client Assistance Program (CAP):
CAP provides free advocacy and information for persons of disability receiving or wishing to receive services from programs funded under the Rehabilitation Act. Hours are Mon - Fri from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, 747-0749. They are located at 905 W. Riverside, Suite 601.
Coalition of Responsible Disabled (CORD):
An independent living center, case managers help disabled homeless individuals to access specialized services and accessible housing. They are located at 612 N. Maple. Hours are 9am – 5 pm Mon – Thurs; 9 am – 12 on Fridays. Financial aid for the disabled is available ONLY for HIV-Positive individuals. Click for more information

This is a housing search based on the needs of disabled persons.
Columbia Legal Services:
This agency serves low income families. The Spokane office represents clients for these types of cases: family law, education, discrimination, individual rights, housing and disability. They are able to take cases other programs can't serve. They work with the Northwest Justice Project/CLEAR line which does the first intake and referral (1-888-201-1014). Their hours are Mon-Fri, 9 am - 5 pm, 324-2789.
The Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS):
CCS works closely with homeless service providers to assist the homeless in acquiring education and job training. The GED program is free for all adults lacking a high school education or English as a Second Language (ESL). State and federally funded free education for job skill development is also available for all TANF and former TANF recipients. In addition, the Community College has free programs available for persons with disabilities. Service organizations providing case management to homeless persons work closely with CCS clients to assist them in accessing these educational opportunities. Intensive vocational education and job-readiness courses are taught from September through June. Classes are offered from 9am-1pm at the Extended Learning Center (IEL) at SFCC, 3305 W. Ft. George Wright Drive, 279-6060. Three major areas are covered: 1) The "Change Program" is geared for homemakers, 2) "Project Self-Sufficiency" for single parents, and 3) "Women In Non-Traditional Settings" for women in transition who have an interest in exploring non-traditional occupations. Outside of class hours personal vocational counseling is offered 8am-9am and 1pm-3pm. Community Detox Services/Cub House:
Cub House provides transitional living housing and services for individuals recovering from substance abuse. It also assists with enrollment in AA/NA meetings, and relapse prevention. Prospective clients must have successfully completed a treatment program and need further support, such as job training, education, social skills, life skills, etc. They are located at 615 S. Thor, 535-4443.
Community Detox reaches out to substance abusers through their van services. Those who are inebriated are taken by van to a sobering and detoxification unit. The program works to engage the homeless in seeking sobriety. This program provides case management, life skills training, relapse prevention, appropriate support services, referrals to all substance abuse treatment providers. They are located at 165 S. Howard, 838-2771.
Community Development Department, City of Spokane:
The Community Development department manages the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. These help to provide a variety of public services in the City of Spokane by supporting community and senior centers, providing child care, establishing after-school recreation programs, cleaning up neighborhoods, fighting crime, operating health and dental clinics, providing food and shelter for the homeless and teaching job skills. They can be reached at 625-6325.
Community Frameworks
For over 30 years, Community Frameworks (formerly Northwest Regional Facilitators) has helped to plan, finance and build affordable housing. They provide resources, training, program administration, project development services and technical assistance to other northwest non-profit organizations, and to housing authorities, tribes and local communities. With their partners, they strive to create a public policy environment and a network of advocates that supports affordable housing and community development goals. THEIR MISSION: "Support & develop affordable housing as a foundation upon which individuals, families and neighbors can build vital communities." They are located at 315 W. Community Health Association of Spokane (CHAS):
CHAS provides primary medical care for the entire family; dental care for children and emergency dental care for adults; prenatal and obstetrics including midwifery services; wellness education; women's health; x-ray, laboratory & pharmacy services; HIV & other support groups; and community outreach & referrals. They are a Healthy Options provider and welcome Basic Health Plan of Washington. If you don't have insurance, they provide services on a sliding fee scheduled based upon family size and household income. They have several locations, click here for addresses and phone numbers.
Crisis Pregnancy Center:
Provides free pregnancy testing; early prenatal care; pregnancy education and counseling on all options. Also provides practical assistance with abortion alternatives and material assistance with maternity and infant items based on program participation. Offers housing for pregnant homeless women. Offers post abortion support and relationship counseling. They do not perform or refer for abortions though they do provide information about that option. Provides STD testing and counseling availabe at the Ash Street Office. Located at 2659 N. Ash or 12124 E 6th. 327-0701 or 891-2850.
Crisis Residential Center (CRC) / YFA Connections:
This program provides case management and shelter to youth ages 13 through 17 who run away from home. The goal is to reunite youth with their families. They are located at 201 W. 6th, 624-2868.
Cuddles and Care:
Offers warm, professional care to mildly ill children, ages birth to 12. Each is given a bed or crib and provided meals and snacks. Cannot accept children with the measles, mumps, chicken pox, and rubella in a contangious stage or children with lice, scabies, or pinworm. First come, first served basis, however you can call the night before or first thing in the morning to reserve a spot. They are located in Sacred Heart Medical Center, 101 W. 8th Ave, 474-4615. Cost is $2.50 per hour with a minimum stay of two hours.
Cup of Cool Water:
Youth under 22 years of age are served on the street and from 1106 W. 2nd Ave., Spokane. Day drop-ins are welcome Tues-Thurs from 3 pm - 6 pm with laundry and showers; a lunch is served at 2 pm. Evening drop-ins are welcome on Tues nights from 7 pm - 10 pm with dinner served from 7 pm - 8:30 pm. A clothing bank is available and referrals are made for special needs. 747-6686.
Daybreak:
Daybreak provides drug and alcohol treatment to adolescents and their families. Daybreak is committed to serving youth and families of all social and ethnic backgrounds, and to serve all who can benefit, regardless of their financial resources or ability to pay the full cost of care. They have three locations in the Spokane area: 11707 E Sprague, 927-1991; 960 E. Third, 444-7033; and 628 S. Cowley, 624-3227.
Displaced Homemaker Program:
The Displaced Homemaker Center offers assistance to women who are in transition following divorce, separation, or widowhood. Provides personal couseling, pre-employment training, and workshops to aid in overcoming barriers and focusing in self-sufficiency. Offers "Change Point!", a 6-week pre-employment program offering aid in overcoming barriers and exploring new directions toward becoming self-sufficient. Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR):
DVR helps people with disabilities prepare for, obtain, and retain employment. Vocational rehabilitation programs are custom-designed for each individual. They work in partnership with the community and business to developemployment opportunities for persons with disabilities. Domestic Violence Consortium Drop-In Center (Children's Waiting Room):
This agency offers free drop-in childcare ages 1-12 for those conducting business in the Spokane Courthouse Complex at the Broadway Center Building, 721 N. Jefferson Room 101, 8 am - 5pm, Mon - Fri. They are closed when the courts are closed, including the noon hour. Priority is given to DV cases--those whose cases involve domestic violence may make reservations, 477-6815.
Downtown Security Ambassadors Program:
This Downtown Business Improvement District program is managed by the Downtown Spokane Partnership. The Security Ambassadors connect the homeless in the downtown business community with needed services.
Early Childhood Education Assistance Program (ECEAP):
State funded preschools for low-income children. For more information call 533-8500.
East Central Community Center (ECCC)
The agency's mission is to provide a coordinated approach to needed neighborhood-based direct and support services and outreach. It also acts as an advocate for issues affecting the neighborhood as well as assisting in developing strategies and resources to address emerging community needs and concerns. Primary care medical services are provided for federally-qualified low-income families with a sliding-scale for those who are not insured. There are recreational and exercise activities for seniors, and a developmentally-disabled recreation and social integration program. Computer labs offer classes for seniors, adults, teens and children. The center is located at 500 S. Stone, 625-6699.
Eastern Washington University (EWU)-Limited Dental Care:
Provides services for ages 6 and up. Free dental evaluation; fees for cleaning, x-rays, and limited restorations upon authorization from regular dentist. Costs are about 1/3 to 1/2 less than a regular dentist. No emergencies, caps, crowns, extractions, dentures, or root canals. Services are provided at varying times during the EWU semesters. 310 N. East SNAP Food Bank:
This is a food bank serving zip codes 99202 and 99212. It is open Thursdays from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. and Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, andFridays by appointment. They are located at 500 S. Stone, 456-7106.
Educational Service District 101 (ED 101) "The NET":
Another of the many facets of ESD 101's "School-to-Work-Connections" is "The NET" (Alternatives for Education and Training). "The NET" targets "at risk" youth and high school dropouts to provide rapid high school re-entry. Students are assigned to "The NET" as an alternative experience. Individual plans are developed for each student in conjunction with their home high school. For more information, call 456-7660.
"The NET Summer Session" offers student credit retrieval and credit mantenance through online coursework in coordination with their home high schools. Students register online for up to two courses with the approval of their high school guidance counselor. Students must have access to a computer and ISP. ESD 101 has a limited number of computers to issue on a short-term basis for students who do not have a home computer or access to one through a neighborhood center, library, or school. Educational Service District 101 (ESD 101) "School-to-Work Connections":
"School-to-Work Connections" is a Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Title IB-funded program for youths 14-21 years of age who meet federal income guidelines. The program provides individual assessment, job-search education, pre-employment and work maturity competency development, work experience and private-sector internships for eligible students in all Spokane County School Districts. Placement into private-sector unsubsidized employment is the primary goal of participation. Students who are far behind in high school are encouraged to participate and catch up through Employment Specialist Counselors assigned to high schools for alternative educational programs which serve 300 youths each year. ESD 101's main location is 1025 W. Indiana, 456-7660. A second location is 4202 S. Regal, 789-3800.
Educational Service District 101 (ESD 101) "Spokane Service Team":
The "Spokane Service Team" is an AmeriCorps national service program completing housing for low-income residents, and construction projects for project sponsors that serve the disadvantaged in the greater Spokane area. Young adults aged 18-25 are eligible to apply, and a monthly living allowance is provided along with an education award of $4,725 upon completion of one year of service. Approximately 30 young adults are enrolled annually--456-7660.
Educational Service District 101 (ESD 101) "Washington Reading Corps (WRC)":
The "Washingon Reading Corps" is an AmeriCorps national service program. In partnership with seventeen schools, ESD 101 has assigned AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers to provide direct instruction and tutoring to struggling readers in grades K-6. VISTA members also recruit and train community volunteers to tutor students. WRC AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance and a $4,725 education award upon completion of one year of service. Thirty-one positions are available for AmeriCorps and VISTA members in the ESD 101 service area--456-7660.
Educational Service District 101 (ESD 101) "Youthbuild Spokane":
"Youthbuild Spokane" is a HUD program for youths aged 18-24 who are high school dropouts or who are educationally "at risk" and economically disadvantaged. They work in construction crews to build housing for low-income residents of Spokane County while attending high school classes to complete their diploma or GED certificate. Life skills training and post-program transition follow-up is provided to all who finish to move them into apprenticeship training, employment, or post-secondary education--456-7685. Construction technology training resulting in employment and/or apprenticeship training is a primary goal of participation. A $2,362.50 AmeriCorps education award is provided to "Youthbuild Spokane" members who complete their term of service.
EN Christo-Whitworth College (Associated Students of Whitworth College):

Excelsior Youth Center:
Excelsior Youth Center is a private, non-profit agency serving youth ages 12-17 with a broad range of behavior problems including chronic runaway, substance abuse, delinquency and pre-delinquency, inability to function within the family setting, and inability to function in the public school system. They are located at 3754 W. Indian Trail Road, 328-7041.
Family Service Spokane:
Family Service Spokane provides counseling for individuals, couples, families, children and adolescents. They offer parenting classes, epilepsy services, group services, and divorce mediation, as well as help with depression, grief/loss, life changes, resolving conflict, anxiety, stress, anger management, injury or illness. They are located at 7 S. Howard, Suite 321, 838-4128.
Feed Spokane:
Feed Spokane is a coalition of meal providers and community partners in the greater Spokane area who work together to serve free meals to those in need.  Our vision is to secure more available food for those in need by creating an efficient, sustainable partnership between food donors, meal providers, and outreach workers.  We do this by providing an open forum for involved parties to discuss ideas, share resources, and provide education to the community at large.  For additional information, contact the Feed Spokane Coordinator at the SNAP Office 500S. First Presbyterian Church
Homeless people can come to the church for counseling and referral at 318 S. Cedar three afternoons a week. Some grocery and restaurant coupons are available as well as clothing (when donated) and bus tokens as the monthly budget allows. For more information call 747-1058.
Fulcrum Institute Dispute Resolution Clinic:
This agency performs court-ordered mediation, arbitration and workplace reconciliation, training for sexual harassment and violence in the workplace, anger management, customer service, theft awareness, administrative procedures, cultural competency, contract negotiations, interpretation of land-use conflicts, landlord/tenant reconciliation, and an interchange program assisting divorced families for contact point exchanges where the parents do not see one another. They can supervise parental visitations as well. The interchange program is offered 7 days a week. Regular hours are 8:30 am - 5 pm, Mon - Fri. Evening and some Saturday training is offered with varying hours. They are open to everyone but work mostly with low-income families and coordinate with Gonzaga Law School and DSHS Child Protective Services on referrals at 905 W. Riverside Suite 304, 838-2799.
Gleaners Programs:
Groups go to local farms to gather vegetables and fruits left after harvesting. Monday - Saturday (April - November). For more information, call 624-7016. No calls after 5:00 pm.
Gonzaga Homeless Newspaper (Rising Times):
The newspaper is sold on the street and the low-income and homeless sellers are allowed to keep the proceeds. The purpose of the paper is to help educate and inform the disadvantaged about issues and problems of concern to them. This promotes advocacy for the disadvantaged, provides a forum for the Homeless Artisans and Writers Coalition, and work for some in creating and delivering the paper. AmeriCorps and VISTA are involved and costs are covered by Gonzaga University and by advertisers using the newspaper. The Spokane Homeless Coalition agency contact information is published along with other needed access information targeting the disadvantaged. Gonzaga Law Clinic - Including Domestic Violence Services:
Legal services are provided by law students working with attorneys for low-income elderly and vulnerable adults and victims of domestic violence with some civil rights work. Walk-ins are accepted at 721 N. Cincinnati, Room 101; calls are taken at 323-5791.
Goodwill Industries:
Goodwill Industries provides employment, vocational and job finding services, skill development and training, independent living programs, welfare to work programs, protective payee program for recovering substance abusers and the mentally ill, and McCarron-Dial Evaluations to adults. They also provide resume development, interview preparation, job finding services, work liaison with Work Source Spokane, employment, vocational and skill development testing and training, vocational, independent living programs, and welfare to work programs. A few of their programs are listed below.
Going Home Initiative for at-risk offenders: With the goal of making our communities safer, this program brings together members of a County Reentry Team to work with serious, violent juvenile and adult offenders as they leave incarceration. The aim is to provide resources that will help prevent their re-offending and returning to prison.
Online and Upward: Goodwill provides access to a computer-based curriculum in medical billing and medical transcription. Participants can complete the courses within their homes and earn a certificate from an accredited college.
PAY$ (Planning Action for Youth Success) Program: In partnership with the Spokane Area Workforce Development Council, Goodwill offers low-income youth ages 17-21 opportunities to gain training, paid work experience, and job placement services. Participants learn how to set goals and prepare for job interviews and, if necessary, are guided in how to complete their secondary education.

Greenhouse:
Provides a general clothing bank and a food bank. The food bank serves zip codes 99006 and 99110. The food bank is open Mon-Fri, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. They are located at 222 E. Crawford, Deer Park, 276-8224 or leave a message at 276-2954.
Habitat for Humanity:
This program provides homeownership for low-income families living in substandard conditions. It requires 500 hours of "sweat equity" as a down payment, provides a 0% interest mortgage, utilizes volunteer labor and donated materials, and makes a lasting impact on each family. Healing Lodge:
This program provides treatment and healing for Native American youth and their families who suffer from alcohol and drug abuse. Treatment is uniquely tailored for each individual. They are located at 5600 E. 8th, 533-6910.
Health for All:
This program is a free community-based health care access project. They connect individuals and families in Eastern Washington with free or low-cost health insurance programs. They also assist those who do not qualify for State-sponsored coverage by linking them with appropriate community resources, such as clinics that offer sliding-fee healthcare services. Trained specialists assist callers with information and application assistance, as well as follow-up and advocacy services; in-person assistance is also available. They are located at 421 W. Riverside Suite 353, 444-3066 (or 1-866-444-3066).
Health Care for Homeless Veterans Program:
This program provides outreach and health care services for homeless veterans. The program provides surplus military clothing, limited opportunity for day labor, and medical services. This agency has an office located in the heart of downtown, co-located with Spokane Neighborhood Action Program and close to other social service agencies that particularly work with chronic homeless individuals. They also participate in Spokane’s Interagency Outreach Team. They are located at 705 W. 2nd, 462-2500.
Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies:
This agency is a referral service for pregnant women and families with children who live in the state of Washington. Provides referrals to community services. For information, call 1-800-322-2588.
H.O.M.E (Helping Ourselves Means Education):
This program helps EWU students and potential students succeed by providing information, networking opportunities, scholarships, advocacy, and encouragement. They offer childcare scholarships, support groups, and other resources. They are located in Monroe 207C or by phone at 359-4237.
HOPE Partners:
This agency provides outpatient treatment services to adults with mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders (mental illness and chemical dependency/abuse). Treatment consists of group, individual and family therapy, as well as case management services, which are geared to meet the individual’s needs and goals. A case manager assists individuals in accessing needed mainstream and stabilization services. Most of the clients they serve are dually diagnosed adults (mentally ill/chemically dependent) who are receiving outpatient treatment, domestic violence perpetrator treatment, and family reconciliation services. Outreach services are provided to homeless individuals. Referrals are made when appropriate. They are located at 1117 W. 1st Ave., 835-3599. Their hours are Mon – Fri, 8 am – 5 pm.
Hospital Equipment Loan:
This program, sponsered through the Scottish Rite, loans out medical equipment for up to 30 days, free of charge. Call Clem at 747-0899 for an interview and more information.
Housing Justice Project:
This program provides low-income tenants in Spokane County access to lawyers to present them at their "show cause" evicting hearings. Hours are Mondays, 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm and Thursdays, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. They are located at 1702 W. Broadway, 324-0144.

"Hugs to Health" Day care/Valley Hospital:
This is a day care for sick children (isolation is available for chicken pox and strep throat). They do not accept children with measles, mumps, whooping cough, or head lice. Pediatric LPN's and NAC staff the center. Reservations are required, no walk-ins accepted, please call their 24-hour reservation line at 473-5496. Their hours are 6:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday - Friday, excluding major holidays. Cost is $3.00 an hour. They are located on the east side of the main hospital building on Vercler Avenue, just off Mission Ave. at Pines, 12606 E. Mission.
Human Services Department:

ICNE -- Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education:
This program is a part of the Interagency Homeless Outreach Team. This program provides initial nursing services to the homeless living in the rough. ICN students work at CHAS to learn about working with the homeless and their special needs.
Immunization Clinic:
This program is provided by the Spokane Regional Health District. It provides immunizations for preventable diseases starting at birth and through adulthood, including travel; school requirements can be met; influenza (flu) and pneumonia vaccines are available. Their hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Fridays from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. They are located at 1101 W. College, 324-1600. Call for additional locations and times.
Infant Crisis Needs Bank:
This free program provides services to all of Spokane County's low-income families. It provides these families with donated new and used baby supplies: cribs, high chairs, carriers and clothing, as well as baby food, cereal, formula, diapers and baby wipes. It is part of the Mission Community Outreach Center, located at 1906 E. Mission, 536-1084. Their hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:30 pm to 4:45 pm. They also have a free Medical Health Center which is open on Wednesdays from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Inland Empire Residential Resources:
Inland Empire Residential Resources facilitates the creation and preservation of long-term affordable housing, primarily for persons with developmental disabilities, other disabled and low- and moderate-income individuals and families. They are located at 116 W. Indiana, 789-2245.
Institute for Extended Learning:
IEL is a division of the Community Colleges of Spokane and provides many programs. Included are basic education classes, ESL, seniors programs, women’s programs, computer skill classes, PACE services, and reading labs. For more information, call their help line at 279-6060.
Interfaith Hospitality Network:
This agency provides temporary shelter for families with children (either one- or two-parent that have been referred from another social service agency. The case manager assists homeless families who are being sheltered by the network of churches and who spend the day at the day shelter to find permanent solutions so they can regain their independence. They provide life skills programs to the residents of their shelter. They also refer families to agencies to provide health care, job training, life skills programs, and other services that work to solve underlying causes of homelessness. Job Resource Center (SL Start):
This agency works with persons with developmental disabilities. They provide job placement, training, and support for job retention. They are located at 905 W. Riverside. For more information, call 747-3071.
Life Skills/Women's Programs:
This program is part of the Institute for Extended Learning and offers free, comprehensive services to individuals re-entering the job market or returning to school. Their staff strive to create a challenging and supportive environment which allows individuals the opportunity to explore options for life or career changes, establish goals, and move toward those goals while gaining a better understanding of themselves, their choices, and their opportunities for a successful future. Lions Clubs of Spokane:
Ten local Lions Clubs provide eye exams and glasses for those who qualify through data supplied on a brief application form. Through a nationwide agreement with Lens Crafters, services are performed at Lens Crafters in Northtown. Used hearing aids are also gathered and reconditioned for local distribution. Clients may walk in at 1212 N. Howard or call 328-6900. The office is staffed with volunteers from 9:30 am - 11:30 am, Monday - Friday.
Lutheran Community Services Northwest:
This agency is located at 210 W. Sprague and provides the following services: Sexual Assault & Family Trauma (SAFeT) Response Center, ACT for Kids, Community Education and Training, Therapeutic Foster Care, and Sexually Reactive Youth Program. The Sexual Assault and Family Trauma (SAFeT) Response Center is comprised of three components: Clinical Services, Advocacy and Support Services, and Education and Prevention Services. They serve individuals and families affected by sexual violence and have expanded their counseling program and education to include those who have been impacted by other crimes and traumatic, life-altering events. Mead Area Ecumenical Food Outlet:

Mending Fences Fellowship:
As part of "Truth Ministries," Mending Fences Fellowship takes overflow and those refused service from House of Charities, Union Gospel Mission, and other overnight programs. Meals and bedding are provided for the night for the homeless and indigent Services are provided both on the street and at their facility at Sprague and Dishman-Mica Rd. Hours are from 9:00 pm - 6:00 am with meals, 7-nights-per-week. Pickup and transportation is provided and sometimes bus tokens. For more information, call 489-5155.
Miryam’s House/Transition Program:
Miryam’s House provides transitional housing and case management for homeless single women 18 and older in recovery from domestic violence, addictions, past abuse/loss, mental health issues, or any life crisis for accessing education/job-training needs, counseling, treatment groups, and permanent housing. Addtionally, budgeting, life skills, parenting and a computer room are provided for in-program classes. 24-hour staffing is available for crisis intervention and referral, or "in-program" one-on-one counseling. Aftercare case-management services are provided for as long as they are needed. They are located at 1805 W. 9th Ave., 747-9222.
Mission Community Outreach Center:
This center houses the Assistance for Domestic Violence Families/Burn Out Victims and Women's Multivitamins with Folic Acid programs and the Infant Crisis Bank. Other services include emergency resource information, a clothing bank (including men's and women's professional clothing), necessities bank, and December Christmas Bicycle and Helmet Program. School supplies are distributed in August and the Center operates a yearly Back-To-School Clothing/Shoes/Coat program. They also offer free medical programs on Wednesdays from 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm. The Center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 1:30 pm - 4:45 pm and are located at 1906 E. Mission, 536-1084.
N.A.T.I.V.E. Health of Spokane:
This is a full-service clinic which provides primary and preventive care for all ages, sports physicals, well-child checks and immunizations, women's and men's health care, health education, chronic illness management, treatment of minor diseases, case management community outreach, and mental health. They assist in securing medical coverage. They accept Medicare, medical coupons, private insurance, and have a sliding fee scale. They are located at 505 E. North Foothills Drive, Suite 300, 483-7535.
The N.A.T.I.V.E. Project (Native American Treatment Intervention & Education):
The N.A.T.I.V.E. Project provides services for adolescents. General services include mental health/substance abuse counseling, intensive outpatient for youth for 16 weeks. Transitional housing and case management for homeless teenage girls experiencing one of the following: pregnancy, parenting, substance abuse, substance abuse recovery, or mental illness.
